Father John and Dan Burke discuss the difference between meditation and contemplation.

Fr. John Bartunek and Dan Burke discuss the similarities and the differences between meditation and contemplation. The one main thing they have in common is that “both Christian meditation and contemplation are forms of what we call mental prayer,” states Fr. John. “Mental prayer is where you speak to God with your own words.” The one main difference lies in that during meditation, “my efforts predominate.” I’m very actively seeking and pursuing a deeper encounter with God. In contemplation, “I’m doing almost nothing,” explains Fr. John. “God steps in and does all the work....”

We invite you to listen to this short video to better understand these two forms of mental prayer. God bless you on your journey.
